There are a variety of locations to visit while in Barbados, and none should be missed. Barbados is home to tropical rain forests, swamps, caves, parks, coral reefs, rivers and a wildlife sanctuary. All are beautiful and natural exhibits and are unlike anything else in the world. Following are some of Barbados most exciting natural attractions Andromeda Gardens – The Andromeda Gardens is laid on six acres and is filled with flowers, trees and cacti, and contains a stream and waterfalls. Animal Flower Cave – The views from the Animal Flower Cave are indescribable and contain some water pools that are deep enough for swimming. There are sea anemones in the cave’s pools, which is how it got its name. Barclays Park – This park has been open since 1966 and is very popular for picnics. It is a 50-acre park and is very scenic. Erroll Barrow Park – Open to the public, this park is filled with trees, flowers, and other foliage and is a perfect spot for a picnic or a stroll. Flower Forest – The Flower Forest is a botanical masterpiece. The Forest contains birds, wild monkeys, and of course many, many varieties of plants and trees. It covers 50 acres and guided tours are available. Folkstone Marine Park – This park can be accessed via scuba diving or snorkeling. The marine park is made out of an artificial reef formed when a ship sunk in 1976. Among all types of sea life live on or around the reef, including: corals, sea anemones, and sponges. Graeme Hall Swamp and Nature Sanctuary – The Swamp is home to countless birds and aquatic life. There are also many uncommon plant species that thrive there. Visitors can walk on a boardwalk that surrounds the swamp. Harrison’s Cave – This is Barbados’ most popular attraction. It contains many underground wonders such as stalactites, stalagmites, streams, lakes and waterfalls. Joe’s River – Joe’s River is located on 85 acres of a tropical rain forest. There are nature trails and picnic areas throughout the area. Lazaretto Gardens – Lazaretto Gardens contains many species of flowers and trees and is a relaxing and enjoyable place to visit. Ocean Park – Ocean Park allows visitors to view and appreciate all forms of sea life. It’s a great attraction for people of all ages and it’s educational, exciting and entertaining all at once. Orchid World – Orchid World is home to about 20,000 orchids and there is a walking path so that visitors can see and appreciate all that this natural attraction has to offer. Turner’s Hall Woods – This attraction sits on 50 acres and is one of the last pieces of the original tropical forest that existed when the island was first settled in 1627. Welchman Hall Gully – This gully is really a garden that features many types of tropical trees and plants. There is a three-quarter mile path that visitors can utilize to view the entire site. Wildlife Reserve – Monkeys are abundant in the Wildlife Reserve, and they run, eat, and play freely along with many other types of animals. Visitors can walk through the reserve and view all of the animals enjoying life in their natural habitat. |
