Relocation to BarbadosRelocating to Barbados? Many Exquisite Homes Available for Rent or Purchase If a person is considering relocating to Barbados, this can be accomplished in one of two ways. Either the person can apply for an extended stay visa or they may make Barbados their permanent residence. If a permanent residence is sought, there are many pieces of real estate available for rent or purchase, and there are plenty of real estate agents eager to lend their services. Once relocated, employment can be found (if desired) in many areas. There are regulations on who can relocate to Barbados. The primary concern that the Barbadian government has with individuals who want to relocate to the island is that they must be able to prove that they can support themselves while there. In other words, the government does not want to have people living in their country who cannot financially support themselves. The Barbadian government does not have the means or desire to provide any sort of support to people who are not born-residents of Barbados. Just about anybody has the right to visit Barbados for a short period of time. However, if the visit turns into an “extended stay,” that person must visit the Barbados Immigration Department and fill out an application. A person who wants “extended stay” permission from the government must provide some documentation… a passport, proof that the person can financially support him/herself during the stay, and an application fee. In addition, visitors, no matter if they are “extended” visitors or not, are not allowed to work or accept employment wile they are in Barbados. If a person decides that he or she wants to maintain a permanent residence in Barbados, a visit to the Barbados Immigration Department is necessary. Forms must be completed and “tangible” evidence must be provided ensuring that there is no chance that the person will become “a charge to the nation.” Once all the paperwork has been completed at the Barbados Immigration Department and the all-clear has been granted, property in Barbados may be rented or purchased. There are several options for property… long-term rental, existing homes for sale, and new/custom-built homes. There are also many location choices of where to live in Barbados, and most will prove to be a good long-term investment. Most condominium complexes are built with large rooms and gourmet kitchens. The grounds are elaborately landscaped and usually include a swimming pool and serene surroundings. The single-family residential developments in Barbados are usually conveniently located, include a community pool, are close to golf courses, and are close to the beaches. The setting and landscaping of such communities are generally very tranquil and have gorgeous views. Once a property has been purchased for permanent residence, the decision must be made on whether or not to ship personal belongings and furniture from the United States (or elsewhere) to Barbados. If there are items to be shipped, there are numerous companies that specialize in moving people or families overseas. Obviously, in the case of Barbados, it will be necessary to ship via a moving van and a boat. After obtaining permanent residence, purchasing or leasing a home, and physically moving, a person may be interested in finding employment in Barbados. While a person who is on an “extended stay” in Barbados cannot legally work during their stay, a person who permanently resides in Barbados may seek employment. There are several internet sites that list job openings in Barbados as well as employment agencies that can assist a person who is looking for a job. Most individuals who permanently move to Barbados are in search of a relaxing place to retire. However, some may move there and want to work. Regardless, the lifestyle in Barbados is proven to be much more laid-back, “tropical,” and less stressful than life in the United States. |
