Who are Better Drivers - Men or Women?Who are better drivers… men or women? There is no definitive answer to this question. There is statistical information on which gender tends to be more aggressive at driving, which is more apt to receive more speeding tickets, which are in the most car accidents, and which are behind the wheel more frequently. However, insurance rates for both men and women are pretty much equal… with the exception of younger aged males. In general, most men and women over the age of 25 are charged almost equal amounts (with men paying slightly higher rates) for their car insurance premiums (assuming all other factors remain constant). But, males who are between the ages of 16 and 25 statistically have to pay more for car insurance than females of the same age. The reasons for these differences have to do with the fact that young males are involved in far more car accidents than females of the same age. In addition, they are also recipients of more speeding tickets and other moving violation tickets. Males who are in their mid to late teens and young twenties have a higher likelihood of driving fast and feeling immortal behind the wheel than females, and insurance companies know this. Therefore, it can be assumed that between the ages of 16 and 25, females should probably be considered better drivers than males. After the age of 25, however, males and females are more equal in terms of who is better at driving. Insurance companies tend to agree because after the age of 25 many of them claim that they don't take into account whether or not a driver is male or female when they calculate insurance rates. Some, however, always charge men more no matter what the driving record. If you are a male, it might pay you to spend some time getting quotes from various insurance companies to see if you can find your least expensive option. Are male drivers over the age of 25 more aggressive than females when they are behind the wheel? This question is a toss up because women have been known to drive just as fast as men do. In fact, men and women can both be accused of experiencing and facilitating the symptoms of road rage. There are many statistics about who is better and who is worse… and they all point towards men being riskier drivers in terms of insuring. Each year, for example, more men than women die in car accidents, more men drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and more men drive without their seatbelts. However, it can be argued that men drive more miles than women do and also spend more hours behind the wheel, so the statistics may not be completely accurate. As the ratio of men to women has become more equal over the course of the past 25 or so years, things have definitely become more equal in terms of who is worse at driving. The fact is, both genders are just about equally bad. With constant distractions in the car, and so many motorists on the road, it's no wonder that both genders drive aggressively, get in accidents, and obtain speeding tickets. So, instead of asking which gender is better at driving, a more appropriate question would be, "Which gender is worse at driving-" and then do your part to become a better, more safe, driver! |
