Zhemaichu (Zhmudka)The Zhemaichu breed of horses is native to the Lithuanian forest type, and has been a known breed since the 16th century. The breed has been crossed repeatedly with several other breeds, yet the Zhemaichu has kept it's suitability for working on farms. Zhemaichu's are undemanding and extremely adaptable to the environment. Original Zhemaichu horses were small, about 144cm in heigh, and had a small face with a wide forehead, muscular necks and an undersized trunk. The modern Zhemaichu, as formed by breeding with larger horses and the North Swedish stallions, is taller- around 153cm and has a longer trunk. Despite the larger size, the Zhemaichu retained the same characteristics of the original breed. Because of the Zhemaichu's massic and clean build, and their sporting potential, they are extremely valuable for breeding medium-sized horses that are used for equestrian sports and tourism activities. |
